SUMMARY:Defence IS&T Strategy Refresh
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Defence Science and Technology Group\, the Defence Innovation Partnership invites you to attend the Defence Innovation\, Science & Technology Strategy Refresh workshop session in Adelaide. \nIn line with the National Defence Strategy update\, DSTG is leading refreshing the Defence IS&T Strategy to ensure it continues to meet Australia’s future Defence and national security needs. \nA public release of the Strategy is planned for August 2026\, to coincide with the Australian Defence Science\, Technology and Research (ADSTAR) Summit\, which will be held in Adelaide. \nTo achieve this\, Defence’s IS&T ecosystem must be optimised to deliver capability by focussing on Defence’s strategic priorities and developing scale through leveraging national and international partners. Defence needs to accelerate technology research and innovation relating to capability\, appropriately signal demand to Australian research and industry sectors\, and ensure clear communication and linkages with those sectors. \nContinuing on from the 2024 Defence IS&T Strategy\, the following strategic shifts are required of our collaboration across the Defence IS&T ecosystem: \n\nbecome more integrated with greater coordination and strategic direction to prioritise IS&T that will create an asymmetric capability advantage for Defence\,\nrapidly pull through innovations to capability drawing on the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) and service innovation\,\ngreater clarity in roles and responsibilities across the ecosystem\,\nensure the security of research\, and\nthe need to work collectively to build self-sustaining\, sovereign investment in Defence IS&T.\n\nAs part of this process\, the Australian Defence Science and Universities Network (ADSUN) is hosting a series of consultation workshops to gather insights from our key partners across universities\, state governments\, publicly funded research agencies and industry. We will seek your perspectives on measures of success\, evidence and case studies on what has worked well under 2024 Defence IS&T Strategy to inform development and implementation of the 2026 strategy. \n
